Wm. Morrison Regional Distribution Centre, Bridgwater
3e were involved with Wm. Morrison Supermarkets Plc and Bowmer and KIrkland Ltd to build a 74,500 sq m warehouse alongside the M5 motorway.
The project included a desk study and site investigation, which revealed extensive thicknesses of weak alluvial soils and high groundwater levels. Pre-loading of soils was chosen to accelerate settlements prior to construction and avoid potential damage to the floor slabs with piled foundations used. The proximity of a main line railway and its potential for settlement required consideration during the development.
Ground gas monitoring enabled the design of appropriate gas protection measures for the development.
