The Royal Sunderland Hospital

Project value £15.5m

New 5 storey extension with plant room and estates department on the ground floor, three 40 bed modular wards and an 18 bed modular Integrated Critical Care Unit (ICCU) and offices on the upper floor.

The state of the art ICCU will segregate theater staff and nursing staff to eliminate the chances of infection spreading between the two departments.  This is a new scheme being implemented by the NHS.

The building is of modular construction and the first module was installed in December 2009, and a fast track overall programme meant the hospital was operational and ready for occupation by May 2010.
