Hammersmith Palais - student accommodation project
3e were commissioned by Caledonian Building Systems Limited to design 9 storey’s of student accommodation at the new mixed-use development on the site of the Hammersmith Palais, a venue which for generations of Londoner’s, meant music and dancing.
The project will see the site on Shepherd’s Bush Road transformed into a new student accommodation facility for Pure Student Living, a joint venture between the Carlyle Group and Generation Estates.
Construction began in September 2013 in preparation for the 2013 -14 academic year.
The Palais has already been demolished and will be replaced by three blocks of between four and nine storey’s on the site. These will provide accommodation for 418 students, while the ground floor and basement levels of the building will create 23,000 sq ft of leisure space, to be used by the local community.
The new building will include a number of key sustainable elements. The rooftops of the three blocks will be planted with vegetation, providing an attractive sustainable ‘brown roof’. There will also be a central ‘energy centre’ which will provide hot water to all the occupiers of the development as part of a community heating scheme. This primary plant will comprise of gas fired high efficiency boilers with the facility to connect in the future to a Combined Heat and Power (CHP) Unit.
