New factory and offices for Thorn Lighting. In addition the project includes a factory and offices for Thorn’s sister company, Tridonics.
The project comprises a 230,000 sq ft factory for Thorn plus 80,000 sq ft on two floors providing offices, laboratories, testing facilities and an Academy of Light. The attached Tridonics facility comprises a 41,500 sq ft factory and 10,500 sq ft of offices. The shell contract was worth approximately £12M.
Located on a green-field site adjacent to Green Lane Industrial Estate, 3e carried out a full site investigation which indicated that the natural materials were suitable for cutting and filling but that shallow mine-workings were present beneath part of the site which would require pressure grouting. Once the grouting was carried out the cut and fill operation was commenced with the fill being compacted to an engineered specification. In addition to geo-environmental and structural engineering services 3e provided civil engineering design of adoptable roads, drainage and external areas.
