Two-storey, 19-bedroom hospital serving Tees Valley community, in Middlesbrough includes three laminar flow theatres, an endoscopy suite, overnight inpatient en-suite bedrooms, 12 day patient pods, outpatient department with diagnostic imaging department, including x-ray, ultrasound and mobile MRI, physiotherapy unit & rehabilitation gym and on-site parking.
3e Consulting Engineers were responsible for the Civil and Structural design of the building, car park and associated drainage. The site was constructed within the grounds of Acklam Hall which is the only Grade 1 listed building in Tees Valley. The hospital was constructed partly over a medieval moat located with the grounds of the hall.
The building was of steel framed construction with metal deck concrete floors. As the hospital had 3 operating theatres located at 1st floor level the floors were designed to minimise the effects of vibration from elsewhere within the building. The foundations were piled due to the poor ground conditions the site drainage was designed with all relevant attenuation tanks in accordance with latest good practice.
