The pioneering £4m Longhill Health Care Centre is the fifth of seven community health centres to be developed by Hull Citycare. The Centre has been designed as a “primary care plus centre” within the City’s health and community infrastructure, and will enable the replacement of four existing single-handed GP practices, along with accommodation for specialist nursing services, minor surgery and Allied Health Professions, as well as some diagnostic testing. A modern library will be incorporated together with an integrated pharmaceutical service.
The structure consists of a steel frame supported by precast concrete piles. The floors utilise composite decking and beams to achieve larger column-free spans and therefore maximise internal space flexibility. A glazed roof lantern is supported by clear span portal frames, allowing day light into the atrium and library below.
Construction work commenced on site during July 2006 and the New Health Centre was completed 2007.
