3e worked in conjunction with Keyhaven Developments on this project at Mappin Street, Sheffield for Sheffield’s Royal Society for the Blind (SRBS).
Worked commenced on site in May 2007 with the demolition of the existing SRSB building. The building provides the SRBS with state of the art facilities on 2 floors with additional student accommodation on 6 floors above. The lower basement up to 1st floor level is constructed from traditional reinforced concrete. Above the 1st floor deck level the upper student accommodation units are of modular construction using an innovative system of off site prefabricated floor cassettes and cold formed load bearing panels.
3e worked in conjunction with Henley Building Systems to deliver this solution comprising floor cassettes formed of 50mm top and bottom concrete panels over a hot rolled frame. Each panel is supported on load bearing wall panels fabricated from cold formed sections. This system allows external cladding and windows to be installed on the panels off site and reduces on site time.
