3e are working in partnership with PlanBEE (Campaign for Change in the Built Environment), who in conjunction with Gateshead College have devised a new way of recruiting and training young people for a career in the construction sector.
A powerful partnership of designers, builders and project managers who operate in the ‘built environment’ have come together to campaign for change to address the skills gap while also creating more valuable people through architectural engineering and management programme.
The campaign was launched in 2013 by Ryder Architecture for change in Built Environment Education. This is now an industry wide partnership working together to shape the talent of the future and inspiring people to consider a rewarding career in the existing world of construction.
Combining study with working for some of the industry’s leading companies whose projects take them across the UK and the world, the programme typically lasts 31/2 – 4 years, and offers a real alternative to university helping to forge careers in a variety of roles which will change and evolve as their career progresses.
Apprentice’s work on a typical 4 month rotation with different disciplines across the industry, with a guaranteed job at the end. Jack Reay joined 3e at the end of October 2016 until February 2017 with one day a week ‘off-the-job’ training at Gateshead College, and became a valuable part of the office in his time here.
Madeleine Lees is our latest apprentice and has become a well liked part of the team, and has shown she is a fierce competitor to the lunch time table tennis games.
